AN ACT to amend the Post Office Savings

Bank Consolidation Act, 1893.

[Assented to, it ith, December, /1902.]

DE it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and

with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and

Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parlia-

ment assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1.     THIS Act may be cited as the Post Office Savings Bank Short title.

Act, 1902, and shall be read as one with the Post Office Savings Bank Consolidation Act, 1893 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

SECTION three of the principal Act is hereby repealed, and

the following is inserted in lieu thereof :-

No. 3, sec. 3.

" 3. (i .) EVERY deposit received by any officer of the Colonial Treasurer appointed for that purpose shall be entered by him at the time of receipt in the depositor's book, and the entry shall be attested by such officer signing such entry and affixing thereon the date stamp of his office.

" (2.) An entry so made shall be the sole evidence of a

deposit having been made, and shall be conclusive evidence

that the depositor named in such book is entitled to repay-

ment thereof with interest (if any) thereon.

"(3 .) No deposit shall be less than one shilling, nor of

any sum not a multiple of one shilling."

SECTION seventeen of the principal Act is amended by omitting the words " All Friendly Societies legally established," in line one, and inserting in place thereof " Any registered Friendly Society or registered Trade Union, or any branch thereof, respectively ;" and by inserting after the word " Friendly," in line five, the words " Society, Trade Union."

(i.) THE accounts of registered Friendly Societies and (2.) The Colonial Treasurer shall not be liable to make good any loss sustained by any Friendly Society or Trade Union, upon any money being unlawfully withdrawn from the account of such society or union, if a cheque is presented purporting to be signed according to the regulations.
