REGULATIONS UNDER THE POST AND TELEGRAPH ACT 1901-1923.

I, THE DEPUTY OF THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the undermentioned amended Regulations under the Post and Telegraph Act 1901-1923, to come into operation forthwith.

Amendment of the Post and Telegraph Regulations.

(Statutory Rules 1913, No. 348, as amended to this date.)

1. Regulation 134 is omitted and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

134. Upon receipt of an application in writing the Deputy Postmaster-General may arrange for the clearance of unregistered letters, letter cards, and post cards from a private posting box of approved pattern, placed in an approved position at business premises, &c.

2. Regulation 135 is omitted and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

135. (1) A notice shall be affixed to each box as follows:—

“Any article put into this box shall not, for the purpose of any enactment, law, or contract, whereby the due posting is evidence of the receipt thereof by the addressee, be deemed to have been duly posted.

“Articles such as newspapers and packets (including circulars) must not be posted in this box.”

The second paragraph of the notice must be printed in prominent letters.

(2) If any articles other than letters, letter cards, and post cards are posted in a private posting box the arrangement for the clearance of the box may be discontinued.

3. Regulation 136 is omitted and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

136. The arrangements for the clearance of the box and the times of clearance shall be determined by the Deputy Postmaster-General.

4. Regulation 137 is omitted and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

137. Officers of the Postmaster-General’s Department shall have access to the box for the purpose of clearing it, and they alone shall possess the keys for opening it.

5. Regulation 138 is omitted and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

138. (1) The fees for clearance, which are payable in advance, shall be as follows:—

(a) If the box is on the ground floor—

Per annum.
