POLICE SERVICE ACT 1990—REGULATION

(Relating to the wearing of name-plates and other identification by members of

the Police Service)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Police Service Act 1990, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Commencement

1. This Regulation commences on 14 November, 1994.

Amendments

2. The Police Service Regulation 1990 is amended:

(a) by inserting in clause 3 in appropriate alphabetical order the following definition:

“Commissioner’s Instructions” means the instructions issued by the Commissioner under section 8 (4) of the Act and for the time being in force;

(b) by omitting from clause 3 the definition of “Police Instructions”;

(c)

by omitting from clauses 7 (4), 9, 46 (3) and 47 (2) the words “Police Instructions” wherever occurring and by inserting instead the words “Commissioner’s Instructions”;

(d) by omitting clause 48 and by inserting instead the following clause:

Name-plates or numerical identification plates to be worn

48. A police officer wearing uniform who is not required by the Commissioner’s Instructions to wear a name-plate is to wear a numerical identification plate in the manner, and containing the particulars, specified in the Commissioner’s Instructions.

(e) by inserting after clause 66 the following clause:

Name-plates to be worn

66A . A member of the Police Service is to wear a name-plate in the manner, and containing the particulars, specified in the Commissioner’s Instructions, unless the member is exempted from

wearing the name-plate under the Commissioner’s Instructions.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The purpose of this Regulation is to provide for the wearing of name-plates by members of the Police Service in accordance with Commissioner’s Instructions issued by the Commissioner of Police. Police officers in uniform will be required to wear numerical identification plates if excused by the Commissioner’s Instructions from wearing name-plates.

The Regulation also replaces outdated references to the Police Instructions with

references to the Commissioner’s Instructions.

This Regulation is made under power conferred by section 219 of the Police Service

Act 1990.
