An Act to authorize the imposition of Fines on Members of the Police Force throughout the Colony of New South Wales find to establish a Fund to be called " The Police Reward

| penal t ies for any neglect or violation of du ty in the i r offices respec t ively Be i t enacted by H i s Excel lency t h e Governor of New South W a l e s wi th t he advice and consent of the Legislat ive Counci l thereof Tha t if any Chief or o ther Constable shall neglect or refuse to obey and execute any lawful wa r r an t of a Jus t i ce of t he Peace or shall be in toxicated by l iquor or shall be gui l ty of any neglect or violation of d u t y in his office every such Chief or o ther Constable shall forfeit and pay such penal ty not exceeding five pounds as any two or more Jus t i ces of t he Peace in a s u m m a r y way after examina t ion on oath of one or more credible witness or witnesses or upon the confession of t h e pa r ty shall impose or inflict and the a m o u n t of such penal ty shall and may be deducted from and out of any salary becoming due to such offender upon a certificate thereof to bo by t h e Jus t i ces before whom he may have been convicted t r ansmi t t ed to t h e Colonial Treasure r or o ther person by w h o m the paymen t of such salary shall be made to be applied towards " T h e Police R e w a r d F u n d " hereinafter ment ioned Provided always t h a t it shall be lawful for the Governor of t he said Colony for t he t ime being to mi t iga te or r emi t any such penal ty . | |

A n d whereas t h e Chief and o ther Constables th roughou t I lie Colony become; ent i t led as informers to cer ta in por t ions of fines and penal t ies under var ious Acts of P a r l i a m e n t and of t h e Governor and Legislat ive Council of t he said Colony and it is deemed expedient that such port ions should be paid towards a cer ta in fund to be called " The Police Reward F u n d " for t h e benefit of t he Police Force in t h e said Colony Be it enacted That in all eases of s u m m a r y conviction in which a Chief or other Constable shall sue or inform and a por t ion of any fine or penal ty imposed shall by law be appropr ia ted to such Chief or o ther Constable as t h e informer su ing for t he same such por t ion of t h e fine shall from and after t he passing of th i s Ac t be paid to t in 1 Colonial Treasurer of t he said Colony to be by h im applied and set apa r t towards a fund to be called " 'flu; Police R e w a r d F u n d " which shall be paid and dis t r ibuted among the members of the Police Force in such m a n n e r as shal l be fixed by the Governor and Execu t ive | |

3. A n d be it enacted Tha t an account in detai l of such dis tr i
bu t ion shall be laid before the Legislat ive Council of t he said Colony wi th in th i r ty days next after t h e beg inn ing of t h e Session after any such d is t r ibut ion shall have been made .
4 . A n d be it enacted That it shall b e lawful for t h e Governor
and Execu t ive Council of t h e s a i d Colony to frame P u l e s and Regu-
la t ions for t he d is t r ibut ion of such Police R e w a r d F u n d as aforesaid
in t h e payment of r e w a r d s gra tui t ies bount ies pensions and other
al lowances which to t h e m shall seem ju s t and expedient . 5. A n d be it enacted Tha t th i s Act shall commence and t ake
effect from and after the first day of J a n u a r y one thousand eight
hundred and fifty.
