Police Recruiting.

A gent or several Agents of the Government of New South "Wales foj. the purpose of engaging persons who have served in the Police Porce of England or Ireland and other eligible persons in the U nited K ing dom to serve as members of the Police Poree of the said Colony for such periods as may he agreed upon Pi-ovided th a t no such engagement shall he for a less period than three years from the tinn^ of disem barkation a t Sydney and it shall he lawful for the said Governor or Secretary of State to give to such Agent or Agents all necessary powers and authorities for carrying out the provisions of this Act.
2. Upon any such person agrcf'ing with any such Agent for Agreement to Ijc

Governor or the said Secretary of State be empowered to liind the emt'dn" iinuts. the persons so engaging as aforesaid at the rates following tliat is to say-—for any Inspector a sum not exceeding eight shillings a day for every Serjeant a sum not exceeding six shillings a day for evisry Ordinary Constable a sum not exceeding five shillings a day for any Detective Officer in addition to the foregoing rates such sum not exceeding one shilling a day as shall be sjiecially agreed upon.

have arrived in tlie said Colony And provided also tha t in case the current rates of pay to the different grades of the Police Eorce of the Colony shall a t any tim e exceed the rates so agreed upon every such person engaged under the provisions hereof shall be entitled to receive such higher rate of pay as shall for the tim e being he paid to other members of the Eorcc; holding the same rank.
5. A free passage to the Colony shall be provided by the Vice passages to the
Government thereof for all persons engaged under the provisions hereof together w ith their wives and families if any.

desert from the said Police Force or shall refuse or wilfully neglect to obey such lairful commands as shall he given to him for the perform ance of his duty or shall be guilty of insubordination or otherwise misconduct himself for the purpose of evading the faithful perform ance of his contract of service or of procuring himself to he discharged from the said Force before the expiration of the term of h is ' engage ment he shall he deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall he liable for such offence to be imprisoned w ith or w ithout hard labor for any period not exceeding six months and shall be also liable (if the Inspector General shall th ink fit) to be dismissed from the said service and shall forfeit all pay which may be due to him and in case of such imprisonment or in case of desertion or unauthorized absence from duty the tim e during which such person shall be absent from his duties shall not be reckoned as a part of the term of the service for which he shall have been engaged.

B. on behalf of the said Government agrees that the said C. D. (his wife and children) shall be provided with a free passage to Sydney in the said Colony and that he shall receive from the said Government in recompense for his services as such member of the said Force pay at the rates mentioned at the foot hereof according to his rank from time to time in the Force.
