Explanatory note

Award, or a Silver Bar to that award, to special constables as well as police officers.

The object of this Regulation is to enable the Commissioner of Police to grant the Commissioner’s Valour power).

1      Name of Regulation

This Regulation is the Police Amendment (Commissioner’s Valour Award)
Regulation 2016.

2      Commencement

This Regulation commences on the day on which it is published on the NSW legislation website.

3 Amendment of Police Regulation 2015

(1) Clause 3 Definitions

Insert in alphabetical order in clause 3 (1):

special constable means a special constable within the meaning of

section 82L of the Act.

(2) Clause 61 Conferral of Valour Award
Insert after clause 61 (1):

(1A)

If while on duty a special constable performs an act of conspicuous merit involving exceptional bravery, the Commissioner may grant to the constable the Commissioner’s Valour Award.

(3) Clauses 61 (2) and 62 (2)
Omit “The recipient” wherever occurring. Insert instead “A recipient”.
(4) Clause 62 Bar for Valour Award
Insert after clause 62 (1):

(1A)

If while on duty a special constable who has previously been granted the Valour Award performs a further act of conspicuous merit involving exceptional bravery, the Commissioner may grant to the constable a Silver Bar to the Commissioner’s Valour Award.

(5) Clause 63 Form of Valour Award
Omit “police officers” from clause 63 (8). Insert instead “recipients”.
