THE POLICE ACTS [ASSENTED TO 13TH SEPTEMBER, 1924.] AMENDMENT ACT OF 1924. B E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis- lative Assembly of Queensland in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows : - 1. This Act may be cited as "The Police Acts Short title Amendment Act of 1924," and shall be read as one with caonnds t ruc t' Ion *" The Pohce Acts Amendment Act of 1921," herein of Act. referred to as the Principal Act. . 2. The following amendments are made in the Ame~ d, , ? ents Principal .Act:- ~ c[ru~clpal (1.) The first paragraph of section four is repealed Section 4. and the following provision is inserted in lieu thereof:- "The age of retirement in the Police Force shall be Ag? of sixty years, except in the case of the holder of the office retlrement. of Commissioner of Police, but should the public interests render it expedient to retain the services of any member of the ]'orce above the age of sixty years, and should * 12 Geo. No. 8, 1924. such member consent to his services being so retained, the Minister, after the prescribed investigation, may authorise such retention until such member attains the age of sixty-five years." Section 10. (2.) In paragraph (a) of section ten, the words "thirteen pounds" are repealed and the words" twenty- six pounds" are inserted in lieu thereof. Section 17. (3.) The following amendments are made in section seventeen :- In subsection one, after the words" Commissioner of Police" the words "and any officer of the Police Force, below the rank of senior serg{}ant, who· is dis- satisfied with the promotion of any other officer to a rank above his own but not of a higher rank than that of senior sergeant" are inserted. In subsection six, the words "seven days" are repealed and the words" thirty days" are inserted in lieu thereof. After subsection ten the following subsections are inserted:- " (11.) In the case of an appeal against the promotion of another officer, if the Appeal Board upholds the appeal the Governor in Council shall, upon consideration of the matter, make such order as appears to him to be just. (12.) In all cases where the appellant is successful and the Appeal Board considers that reasonable expenses or any part thereof should be paid to the appellant, the chairman shall certify accordingly: Provided that in the case of any appeal against the promotion of another officer the Commissioner shall not be liable for the travelling or any other expenses of any witness summoned by or on behalf of the appellant, except in eases where the appellant is suc- cessful and the chairman certifies that the evidence of such witness is necessary and material: Provided, further, that the approval of the Minister shall be obtained before payment in respect of any such expenses is made."
