HEREAS by an Ordinance No. 19, of 1844, entitled " An preamble.
Ordinance for regulating the Police in South Australia," it was (among other things) Enacted, that it should be lawful for the Governor from time to time, by warrant under his haud, to appoint Justices of the Peace to execute the duties of Conmissioner of Police and Police Magistrate as therein specified: And whereas it
is expedient that the duties of Commissioner of Police should be
separated from those of Police Magistrate:
Re it therefore Enacted, by the Lieutellant-Govcrlior of South Aus- tralia, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, | Gorwnox to appoint; |
That it shall be lawful for the Governor from time to time, to appoint any person or persons to be Commissioner of Police, either for the whole Province or for a part thereof, and any such Commissioner of Police from time to time to remove and displace, as to the said Governor shall seem fit, and that from and after such appointment, all the powers which by the said Ordinance for regulating the Police in South Australia are given to the Police Magistrate for the appointment of a Police Force, and the conmand of the same, and for the framing of orders :tnd regulations for the government of the same, and for the suspension or dismissal of any man therefkorn, shall vest in and be exercised by such Police Commissioner within the limits of his appointment; and all other powers and authorities which by the said Ordinance are given to the Police Magistrate, shall vest in and be exercised by the person for the time being holding the office of Police Macristrate.

Province of South Australia, be it Enacted, That every constable
so employed shall be amenable to, and obey in all respects, the 1awful commands of any superior officer, and shall be liable to the same penalties, forfeitures, and punishments, in al l respects, for any neglect or violation of duty, in any service upon which he may be so employed beyond the limits of this Province, in the same manner as though such ne lect or violation of duty had been committed by
