Poisons Amendment (Dental Therapists) Regulations 2001

I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Poisons Act 1971 .26 March 2001

1Short titleThese regulations may be cited as the Poisons Amendment (Dental Therapists) Regulations 2001 . 2CommencementThese regulations take effect on the day on which their making is notified in the Gazette. 3Principal RegulationsIn these regulations, the Poisons Regulations 1975 are referred to as the Principal Regulations. 4Regulation 2 amended (Interpretation)Regulation 2(1) of the Principal Regulations is amended by inserting the following definitions after the definition of "declared restricted substance": dental therapist means a dental therapist as defined in the School Dental Therapy Service Act 1965 ; dentist means a dentist as defined in the Dental Act 1982 ; 5Regulation 38A insertedAfter regulation 38 of the Principal Regulations, the following regulation is inserted: 38ADental therapists may administer certain substances For the purpose of section 38(1)(i) of the Act, a dental therapist is a prescribed person who may administer to a person, under the supervision and general direction of a dentist, the following restricted substances in the specified circumstances: (a) demethylchloretracycline, when used in dental preparations; (b) local anaesthetics, for use in dental treatment; (c) topical fluorides, when used in dental preparations; (d) triamcinolone acetonide, when used in dental preparations.
