(Relating to anabolic steroids and to wholesale dealing in substances for use by police dive medical technicians and by nurses involved in vaccination programs)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Poisons Act 1966, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Commencement

1. This Regulation commences on 19 August 1994.

2. The Poisons Regulations are amended:

(b)

by inserting after regulation 43 (1) (i) the following subparagraphs:

(j) in respect of vaccines for use in humans, a person who is a registered nurse and who is employed in connection with a vaccination program carried out in a public institution or place of work;
(k) in respect of a substance specified in the Table to this subparagraph (being a substance in the form so specified and of a strength no greater than the strength so specified), a person:

(i)  who is a dive medical technician within the Police Service; and

(ii)  whose duties include the carrying out (under the supervision of a medical practitioner who is qualified in underwater medicine) of emergency medical treatment on divers.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The objects of this Regulation are:

(a)

to extend the operation of the Poisons Regulations so that certain anabolic steroids are subject to the same provisions as those to which testosterone (another anabolic steroid) is subject; and

(b)

to allow wholesale dealing in certain vaccines supplied to registered nurses involved in mass immunisation programs and in certain substances that are used by police dive medical technicians for the treatment of medical problems that arise in the course of underwater diving.

This Regulation is made under the Poisons Act 1966, including sections 4, 16, 17

and 18A.
