EXPLANATORY NOTE

As a consequence of amendments made to the Pharmacy Act 1964 in the Statute Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act (No. 2) 1990, the periods that a person is required to serve as an assistant to a pharmacist before the person is registered as a pharmacist under the Pharmacy Act 1964 are no longer to be prescribed by the Act. The periods that are currently required to be served are 12 months (for a pass degree) or 6 months (for honours or higher degree).

The object of this Regulation is to amend the Pharmacy Regulations to prescribe the periods that a person is required to serve as an assistant. The new Regulation only applies to persons who begin a degree in pharmacy after the Regulation commences.
