REGULATIONS UNDER THE PHARMACEUTICAL BENEFITS ACT 1947-1950.*

,THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Act 1947-1950.

AMENDMENTS OF THE PHARMACEUTICAL BENEFITS REGULATIONS. 

Form and maximum quantities of benefits.

1. Regulation 18 of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Regulations is amended by omitting sub-regulation (3A.) and inserting in its stead the following sub-regulation:

" (3A.) The last preceding sub-regulation does not apply to the following pharmaceutical benefits :—

Insulin.

Insulin (Crystalline).

Insulin Globin Zinc.

Insulin (Pig).

Insulin Protamine Zinc.".

Second Schedule.

2. The Second Schedule to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Regulations is omitted and the following schedule inserted in its stead :—

COMMONWEALTH PHARMACEUTICAL FORMULARY.

In this Schedule-

" amp." means ampoule;

" cap." means capsule;

" cc." means cubic centimetres;

" fl. oz." means ounces of 480 minims;

" G " means grammes;

" y " means microgrammes;

" gr." means grains;

" hypo. tab." means hypodermic tablet;

" LM." means intramuscular;

" I.U." means international units;

" I.V." means intravenous;

" mg." means milligrammes;

" M " means millions of organisms;

" mil." means millilitres;

" min." means minims;

" oz." means ounces;

" tab." means tablet;

" U " means units; and

" U.S.P." means United States Pharmacopoeia.

Third Schedule.

3. The Third Schedule to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from sub-paragraph (2.) of paragraph 3 the words and figures " any of items 58 to 61 (inclusive) in the Second Schedule to these Regulations " and inserting in their stead the words " the next succeeding sub- paragraph " ; and

(b) by inserting after sub-paragraph (2.) of that paragraph the following sub-paragraph :—

" (2A.) The last preceding sub-paragraph applies to the following ' pharmaceutical benefits :—

Insulin.

Insulin (Crystalline).

Insulin Globin Zinc.

Insulin (Pig).

Insulin Protamine Zinc.".

Amendments not to apply in certain cases.

4. Notwithstanding the amendments of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Regulations effected by these Regulations, the provisions of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Regulations, as in force immediately before the date of commencement of these Regulations, shall continue to apply in relation to the supply of pharmaceutical benefit sup on presentation, whether before or after that date, of prescriptions written before that date.
