| Preamble. | "rTTHEE-EAS by an Act of the Governor and Legislative Council V V passed in the sixteenth year of Her Majesty’s Kcign and |
| intituled Act to authorize the Governor General with the advice o f the Lxecutice Council to grant letters o f registration fo r all inven tions and improvements in the Arts or Manufactures to have the same effect as Letters Latent in England so fa r as regards this Colony” provision was made for the granting of letters of registration for the exclusive enjoyment and advantagi* for a period of not less than seven nor more than fourteen years for all inventions or improvements in the arts or manufactures to the authors or designers thereof their agents or assignees snliject to the conditions and provisions contained in the said Act And whereas it is desirable in view of tbe forthcoming Inter national Exhiliition to be beld in Sydney during tbe years one tliousand eight hundred and seventy-nine and one thousand eight hundred and eighty to provide that the authors or designers of all such inventions and improvements as might be protected by letters patent under the said Act shall not be deprived of or prejudiced in the assertion of their patent rights in respect of such inventions and improvements by reason of such inventions or improvements being exhibited or used at or for the purpose of such International or other Exhibition Be it therefore enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled and by tbe authority of the same as follows ;— |
| Short title. | 1. This Act may be cited as the “ Patents Law Amendment |
Act.”
| Interpretation of | 2. In the construction and for the purposes of this Act the expression “ Patents Act” means the Act sixteenth Victoria number twenty-four and the word “ Exhibition” includes the International Exhibition appointed to be held in Sydney during the present or next year as well as any exhibition to be beld in this or any other year by the Agricultural Society of this Colony and any exhibition of Avorks of scientific invention or of the fine arts or of industrial art Avhich the Governor with the advice of the ExecutAe Council may by notifi cation in the Gazette declare to be an exhibition Avithin the meaning and for the purposes of this Act And the Avord “ Invention” means any invention or improA'ement in the arts or manufactures such as might be patented under the “ Patents Act.” |
