AN ACT to amend the Parliamentary
Superannuation Act, 1948-1955.

BE it enacted by the Queen's Most ExcellentMajesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

is referred to as the principal Act.
1957.] Parliamentary Superannuation. [No. 59. (3) The principal Act as amended by this Act may be cited as the Parliamentary Superannuation Act, 1948-1957.
2. Section fourteen of the principal Act is 7„„lided,
amended
| (a) | by adding after the section designation, "14", the subsection designation, "(1)"; and |
(b) by adding the following subsections:
(2) Where payments of any benefit or pension,
to which a person would otherwise
be entitled under this Act,
wholly cease for any period
because, during the period, the person holds an office which is under the Crown in right of the State, and in respect of which he receives remuneration out of money of the Crown in right of the State,
those payments shall not be cancelled absolutely, but shall be deemed to be suspended during that period, and shall become payable on and from the termina- tion of that period for such further period as is of equal duration to that period.
(3) Subsection (2) of this section shall be deemed to have come into operation on the day on which Act No. 60 of 1948 came into operation, namely the twenty- first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and forty-nine, and for the purpose of making payments deemed sus- pended for any period which terminated before the coming into operation of the Parliamentary Superannuation Act, 1957, is modified so that those payments shall become payable on and from the coming into operation of the lastmentioned Act.
