AN ACT to amend the Parliamentary

Superannuation Act, 1948-1950.

[Assented to 20th December, 1951.]

RE it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-

This Act may be cited as the Parliamentary Superannuation Act Amendment Act, 1951, and shall be read as one with the Parliamentary Super- annuation Act, 1948-1950 (Act No. 60 of 1948, as amended by Act No. 32 of 1950), referred to in this Act as the principal Act.

Short title

This Act shall come into operation on the first

day of January, one thousand nine hundred and

fifty-two.

Section ten of the principal Act is amended

by

(a)

substituting for the words, "forty-eight pounds (M8)" in line two of subsection (1), the words, "fifty-two pounds";

(b) adding the following subsection:

(3) The Treasurer shall pay into the Fund an amount of four thousand one hundred and sixty pounds per annum from the Consolidated Revenue Fund, which is hereby permanently appropriated accordingly.

5. Section eleven of the principal Act is amended

by

(a)

substituting for the words, "subsection (4)" in lines seven and eight of paragraph (a) of subsection (5) the words, "subsection (5a)";

(b) adding the following subsection:

(5a) (a) Payment of the pension referred to in paragraph (a) of the last preceding subsection shall not commence until the expiration of the period required to exhaust the benefit referred to in that paragraph, at the rate at which that pension is payable pursuant to the pro- visions of that paragraph.

(b) The provisions of the last preceding paragraph shall apply whether that benefit has been paid before, on or after the coming into operation of the Parlia- mentary Superannuation Act Amend- ment Act, 1951, namely, the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-two.

6. The following subsection is added to section

twelve of the principal Act:

(4) Notwithstanding any other provision of

this section, a member

who has served as a member for an aggre- gate period of not less than twenty years;

shall,

if he ceases to be a member,

be entitled to a pension under this Act.
