The Parliament of Victoria enacts:

1Purpose

The purpose of this Act is to amend the Parliamentary Salaries and Superannuation Act 1968 to limit any increase in the salary payable to members of the Parliament of Victoria in the current financial year to 3×25 %.

2Commencement

(1)This Act, other than section 4, is deemed to have come into operation on 1 July 2007.

(2)Section 4 comes into operation on a day to be proclaimed.

3Amendment of section 3—definitions

In section 3 of the Parliamentary Salaries and Superannuation Act 1968, in the definition of basic salary for "$1442" substitute "$5733".

Note

Section 4 would only be proclaimed if the relevant determinations of the Federal Remuneration Tribunal with respect to the amount of the annual allowance by way of salary payable with effect from 1 July 2007 to members of the House of Representatives were disapproved of under the Remuneration Tribunal Act 1973 of the Commonwealth. The effect of proclaiming this section would be that the basic salary of members would revert on and from the date of the proclamation to the amount payable immediately before 1 July 2007.
