PARLIAMENTARY REMUNERATION ACT 1989—

REGULATION

(To increase the remuneration of certain office holders)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Amendment

1. Schedule 1 to the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989 is amended by inserting at the end of Part 2 the following matter:

Chairman of the Standing Committee on Law and Justice

of the Legislative Council 7% 7%

Chairman of the Standing Committee on Parliamentary

Privilege and Ethics of the Legislative Council 7% 7%

Application of amendment

2. The amendment made by this Regulation extends to any person holding office as Chairman of a Committee referred to in clause 1 on the commencement of this Regulation and to the remuneration payable to such a person for any period in the current Parliament during which the person has held that office as well as any subsequent period.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Regulation is to increase the remuneration of certain members of Parliament under the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989 in line with similar office holders. The increase applies to the members who hold the following offices:

(a)

Chairman of the Standing Committee on Law and Justice of the Legislative Council;

(b)

Chairman of the Standing Committee on Parliamentary Privilege and Ethics of the Legislative Council.

The increase applies to remuneration to which those office holders have been entitled

since they took office in the current Parliament.

This Regulation is made under sections 6 (4) and 21 of the Parliamentary

Remuneration Act 1989.
