PARLIAMENTARY REMUNERATION ACT 1989—
REGULATION
(Relating to increases in the remuneration of certain office holders)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

Amendment
1. Part 2 of Schedule l to the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989 is
amended:
(a)
by inserting after the matter relating to the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council (when not leader of a party) the following matter:

Leader of the Opposition) of a
recognised political party not fewerthan 10 members of which are
members of the Legislative Council
and of which no member is a

(a)
by inserting after the matter relating to the Government Whip in the Legislative Council the following matter:

Application of amendment
2. The amendment made by this Regulation extends to any person holding an office referred to in clause 1 on the commencement of this Regulation and to the remuneration payable to such a person for any period in the current Parliament during which the person has held that office as well as any subsequent period.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
Section 6 of the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989 provides for holders of certain offices (“recognised office holders”) specified in Schedule 1 to the Act to receive an additional salary and expense allowance as well as the basic salary to which they are entitled as Members of Parliament. The additional salary and expense allowance to be received is expressed as a percentage of the basic salary.
The object of this Regulation is to increase the remuneration of:
(a) the Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party in the Legislative Council; and
(b) the Deputy Government Whip in the Legislative Council.
The increase applies to remuneration to which those office holders have been entitled
since they took office in the current Parliament.
This Regulation is made under sections 6 (4) and 21 of the Act.
