Parliamentary Remuneration Act New South Wales

Amendment (Deputy Speaker)

Regulation 1999

under the

Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989

His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989.

BOB CARR,

Premier

Explanatory note

Section 6 of the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989 provides for holders of certain offices (“recognised office holders”) specified in Schedule 1 to the Act to receive an additional salary and expense allowance as well as the basic salary to which they are entitled as Members of Parliament. The additional salary and expense allowance to be received is expressed as a percentage of the basic salary. A new office of Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly was established by a Sessional Order of the Legislative Assembly on 11 May 1999. The object of this Regulation is to include the office of Deputy Speaker in Schedule 1 as a “recognised office holder”, and to provide for an additional salary and expense allowance for this office. The additional salary and the expense allowance applies to the remuneration of the holder of the office of Deputy Speaker since the holder took office, that is, from 11 May 1999.

This Regulation is made under the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989, including section 6 (4) and 21 (the general regulation-making power).
