His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989.

Explanatory note
Section 6 of the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989 provides for holders of certain offices (“recognised office holders”) specified in Schedule 1 to the Act to receive an additional salary and expense allowance as well as the basic salary to which they are entitled as Members of Parliament. The additional salary and expense allowance to be received is expressed as a percentage of the basic salary. The object of this Regulation is to provide for an additional salary of 13% for a Deputy Leader in the Legislative Assembly (other than the Leader of the Opposition or the Deputy Leader of the Opposition) of a recognised political party not fewer than 10 members of which are members of the Legislative Assembly and of which no member is a Minister.
This Regulation is made under the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989, including sections 6 (4) and 21 (the general regulation-making power).

1 Name of Regulation
This Regulation is the Parliamentary Remuneration Act Amendment
(Deputy Leader—Legislative Assembly) Regulation 1999.
2 Amendment of Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989 No 160
Part 2 of Schedule 1 to the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 1989 is amended by inserting under the heading “Additional salary”, opposite the words “Deputy Leader in the Legislative Assembly of such a recognised political party”, the matter “13%”.
