A.D. 1890.
No. 496. An Act to provide for the Continuance of the Office of
President of the Legislative Council, and of the Speaker and Chairman of Committees of
the House of Assembly.
HERE AS by " The Constitution Act," i t is, amongst
W other things, provided that there shall be a President of the | Legislative Council and a Spcaker of the House of Assembly |
elected from the members of the said Council and of the said House, respectively: And whereas it is expedient to provide for the continuance of the office of the President of the said Council, | |
and of the Spcaker and Chairman of Committees of the said House, | |
respectively, whensoever the member elected to be President of the said Council shall have ceased to be a member thereof by reason of | |
his retirement by effluxion of time, or owing to the dissolution of | |
the said Council, and whensoever the Speaker or Chairman of | |
Committees of the said House of Assembly shall have ceased to be a Member thereof by reason of the dissolution of Parliament-Be it therefore Enacted by the Governor of the Province of South Australia, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, in this present Parliament assembled, as follows: |
1, In case the member of the Legislative Council holding thePresidenttohold
office of President of the said Council shall vacate his seat by |
periodical retirement, or by reason of the dissolution of the said
not re-eleoted.

be, and shall be deemed to be, the President of the said Council until the next meeting of Parliamcnt, unless he shall not be re-elected a member of the said Council.

to enable any person hereby continued in the office of President of the Legislative Council, or of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, to preside at any meeting of the said Council or of the said House, respectively. |
