The Parliament of Victoria enacts:

Part 1—Preliminary

1Purpose

The purpose of this Act is—

(a)to amend the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003 so as to—

(i)rename the Economic Development Committee as the Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee and alter its functions; and

(ii)rename the Rural and Regional Services and Development Committee as the Rural and Regional Committee; and

(iii)increase the maximum number of members of a Joint Investigatory Committee; and

(b)to amend the Parliamentary Salaries and Superannuation Act 1968 so as to—

(i)remove the requirement that the Third Party must have at least 4 members of the Council before its Leader in the Council is entitled to additional salary; and

(ii)provide for an increased amount of additional salary for the Chairperson of the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee and the Chairperson of the Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations Committee and an entitlement to additional salary for the Deputy Chairperson of each of those Committees.

2Commencement

This Act comes into operation on the day after the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

Part 2—Parliamentary Committees Act 2003

3Establishment of Joint House Committees

In section 5 of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003

(a)in paragraph (b) after "Development" insert "and Infrastructure";

(b)in paragraph (j) omit "Services and Development".

4Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee

(1)In the heading to section 8 of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003 after "Development" insert "and Infrastructure".

(2)In section 8 of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003

(a)after "the Economic Development" insert "and Infrastructure";

(b)for "or industrial affairs" substitute


", industrial affairs or infrastructure".

5Rural and Regional Committee

(1)In the heading to section 16 of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003 omit "Services and Development".

(2)In section 16(1) of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003 omit "Services and Development".

6Membership of Joint Investigatory Committees

In section 21(1) of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003 for "9" substitute "10".

7New section 66 inserted

After section 65 of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003 insert

"66Transitional provision—2007 Act

Despite section 29, evidence taken by a Committee specified in column 1 of the Table (the former committee) before the end of its term on the expiry of the Assembly in 2006 and in relation to which the former committee had not before the end of that term made a report to the Parliament may be considered by the Committee specified opposite the former committee in column 2 of the Table.

8Statute law revision

Part 7 of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003 is repealed.

In the Table to section 6 of the Parliamentary Salaries and Superannuation Act 1968
