Parliamentary Committees Amendment Act 2019

The Parliament of Victoria enacts:

1Purposes

The purposes of this Act are—

(a)to amend the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003 to abolish certain Joint House Committees; and

(b)to amend the Parliamentary Salaries and Superannuation Act 1968 to make further provision in relation to the additional salary to be paid to the chairpersons of certain parliamentary committees; and

(c)to make a statute law revision to a provision of the Integrity and Accountability Legislation Amendment (Public Interest Disclosures, Oversight and Independence) Act 2019 that consequentially amends the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003.

2Commencement

(1)This Act (other than section 7) comes into operation on the day after the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

(2)Subject to subsection (3), section 7 comes into operation on a day to be proclaimed.

(3)If section 7 does not come into operation before


1 January 2020, it comes into operation on that day.

3Establishment of Joint House Committees

Section 5(b), (d), (e) and (g) of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003 is repealed.

4Sections 8, 10, 11 and 13 repealed

Sections 8, 10, 11 and 13 of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003 are repealed.

5Parts 8 and 9 repealed

Parts 8 and 9 of the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003 are repealed.

6Salaries and allowances

In section 6 of the Parliamentary Salaries and Superannuation Act 1968, in the Tableatthe foot of the section, before the iteminrelation to the "Chairperson of a Joint Investigatory Committee within the meaning ofthe Parliamentary Committees Act 2003

which is not otherwise provided for in this Table" insert

"Chairperson of a standing committee appointed under standing orders of the Assembly or the Council 10


".

7Statute law revision—Integrity and Accountability Legislation Amendment (Public Interest Disclosures, Oversight and Independence) Act 2019

In section 91(1)(b) of the Integrity and Accountability Legislation Amendment (Public Interest Disclosures, Oversight and Independence) Act 2019, for "paragraph (o)" substitute "paragraph (n)".

8Repeal of amending Act

This Act is repealed on 1 July 2021.

Note

The repeal of this Act does not affect the continuing


operation of the amendments made by it (see section 15(1)


of the Interpretation of Legislation Act 1984).
