PARLIAMENTARY ALLOWANCES.

AN ACT to authorise a reduction in the amount of Allowances to Members of each House of the Parlia- ment of Western Australia.

this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of
the same, as follows:—
1. This Act may be cited as the Parliamentary Allow- Short titan
antes Amendment Act, 1930, and shall be read as one with the Parliamentary Allowances Act, 1911, hereinafter referred to as the principal Act.

]ative Council, every member of the Legislative Assembly, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, the President of the Legislative Council, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, the Chairman of Committees of the Legislative Council, and the Chairman of Committees of the Legislative Assembly, instead of being paid the allowances provided for them respectively under the provisions of the principal Act, as amended by the Parliamentary Allowances Amendment Aets of 1919, 1925, and 1927 shall, without fur- ther or other authority than this Act, be entitled to receive and shall be paid such allowances, less a reduction equal in amount to ten per centum of such allowances respectively.

Provision for
| deduction from | 3. | (1.) Subject as hereinafter provided, during the un- |

| reduction | 1931, every such reduction shall be made as and when period- ical instalments of allowances are payable, and shall be cal- culated on the amount of every such instalment, and the amount of every such reduction calculated as aforesaid shall be deducted from every such periodical instalment and be paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund, or credited to the appropriated item, as the Treasurer may determine. |
| Provided that, in so far as the said reduction may not have been deducted from the periodical instalments of allow- ances paid between the first day of October, 1930, and the date of tins Act being assented to, the amount of the reduc- tion which under this subsection would have been deducted from the said instalments if this Act had been assented to on the said first day of October, 1930, may be deducted from one or more periodical instalments of allowances payable after this Act has been assented to, either in one amount or in several amounts, as the Treasurer may determine. | |
| (2.) Whilst this Act shall continue in operation after the said thirtieth day of June, 1931, Parliament may appropriate such moneys only as shall be necessary to pay the said allow- ances less the said reduction. |

This Act shall have effect as from and including the
first day of October, 1930, and shall continue in operation
until the thirtieth day of September, 1931, and no longer.
