PARLIAMENTARY ALLOWANCES.

An Act to amend the Parliamentary Allowances Act 1920–1938, and for other purposes.

Preamble.

BE it enacted by the King’s Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate, and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, for the purpose of appropriating the grant originated in the House of Representatives, as follows:—

Short title and citation.

1.—(1.) This Act may be cited as the Parliamentary Allowances Act 1947.

 

(2.) The Parliamentary Allowances Act 1920–1938 is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

(3.) The Principal Act, as amended by this Act, may be cited as the Parliamentary Allowances Act 1920–1947.

Amount of allowance.

2. Section three of the Principal Act is amended by omitting the words “One thousand pounds” and inserting in their stead the words “One thousand five hundred pounds”.

Allowances to Leaders of Opposition.

3. Section seven of the Principal Act is amended—

(a) by omitting the words “Two hundred pounds” and inserting in their stead the words “Three hundred pounds”; and

(b) by omitting the words “Four hundred pounds” and inserting in their stead the words “Six hundred pounds”.

Commencement of varied rate of allowance.
