AN ACT to amend the Optometrists Act, 1940-1951.

[Assented to 26th November, 1957.]

BE it enacted by the Queen's Most ExcellentMajesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Optometrists

Short title

and citation.

Act Amendment Act, 1957.

In this Act the Optometrists Act, 1940-1951, Act No. 33 of 1940 as amended by Acts Nos. 44 of 1944, 28 of 1947 and 23 of 1951,

is referred to as the principal Act.

(3) The principal Act as amended by this Act

may be cited as the Optometrists Act, 1940-1957.

2. The principal Act is amended by inserting

after section thirty-four A the following section:-

34B. Any person who not later than the thirtieth day of June One thousand nine hun- dred and fifty-eight makes application in the prescribed manner to the Board for registration under this Act, and proves to the satisfaction of the Board that

(a)

he is over the age of twenty-one years and is of good character; and

(b)

being a natural born, or a naturalised, British subject, he has resided con- tinuously in the Commonwealth of Australia for not less than five years during which period he has resided in Western Australia for at least two years; and

(c)

he had, for not less than five years immediately prior to his coming to the Commonwealth of Australia, been con-

tinuously and bona fide engaged in the

practice of optometry, either as an

optometrist or optician; and

(d)

he has passed theoretical and practical tests in optometry to the usual stan- dard as prescribed by the Board,

shall be entitled on payment of the prescribed registration fee and the prescribed certificate fee to be registered as an optometrist under this Act, and shall be so registered by the Board.
