Preamble. A i r HERE AS it is expedient to grant to Her Majesty a Duty of

Customs upon Opium

Be it therefore enacted by the Queen’s

Most Excellent Majesty by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South "Wales in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same as follows :—■

In addition to all other Duties of Customs which are now by law charg(!able and payable to Her Majesty there shall be charged and collected and paid to Her Majesty upon all Opium imported into New South "Wales a Duty of Customs at the rate of ten shillings upon and for every pound avoirdupois weight thereof.

2. This Act shall come into force on the day of the passing upon Opium imported into New South M^ales since the twentieth day of August one thousand eiglit hundred and fifty-seven if charged at the rate afori'said and in other respects in accordance with the provi­ sions of this Act shall lie deemed to have been lawfully charged collected or levied.
