AN ACT to provide for the continuance of the office of President of the Legislative Council, and of the Speaker of the Legisla- tive Assembly.

[Assented to, i3th January, 1693.]

HEREAS by "The Constitution Act, 1889," it is amongst

other things provided that there shall be a President of the Legislative Council and a Speaker of the Legislative Assembly : And whereas it is expedient to provide for the continuance of the office of the President of the said Council and of the Speaker of the said Assembly respectively, whensoever the member appointed or elected to be President of the said Council shall have ceased to be a member thereof owing to the coming into operation of Part III. of " The Constitution Act, 1889," or by reason of his retirement by efflnxion of time, and whensoever the Speaker of the said Assembly shall have ceased to be a member thereof by reason of the dissolution of Parliament : Be it therefore enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Western Australia,

same, as follows:-

(a.) Upon the coming into operation of Part III. of "The

Constitution Act, 1889," or

(b.) Who, after the coming into operation of Part III. of the said Act, shall vacate his seat by periodical retirement when the Council is not in session,

shall continue in office and be deemed to be the President of the said Council until the next meeting of Parliament unless he shall not be elected or re-elected (as the case may be) a member of the said Council.

office till meeting Legislative Assembly at the time of such dissolution shall continue in of new Parliament office and shall be deemed to be the Speaker of the said Assemblyunless not re-elected.

THIS Act may be cited for all purposes as " The Officers of
