" transported Felons and Offenders illegally at

" large and of persons found with Arms and

" suspected to he Robbers." [15th June, 1848.]

an A c t was passed by t h e Governor and Legis la t ive

la te Majesty K i n g W i l l i a m the F o u r t h in t i tu led " An Act to

"facilitate the apprehension of transported Felons and Offenders illegally " at large and of persons found with Arms and suspected to be Robbers" which said Ac t was con t inued by cer ta in o ther Acts of t he said Governor and Counci l passed respectively in t h e s ixth year of the re ign of H i s said Majesty and in t h e first th i rd fifth e igh th and n i n t h years

of t h e re ign of H e r present Majes ty Queen Vic tor ia wi th cer ta in

a m e n d m e n t s there in conta ined A n d whereas t h e said first reci ted Ac t

will expire on t h e thir ty-first day of A u g u s t n e x t and it is expedient

t o cont inue t h e same for a fur ther l imited per iod as amended in t h e

m a n n e r here inaf ter ment ioned Be i t therefore enacted by H i s Excel ­ lency the Governor of N e w South Wales wi th t he advice and consent of t he Legis la t ive Counci l thereof Tha t t h e said first reci ted A c t passed in t he fifth year of t h e re ign of H i s said la te Majesty shall be and the same is hereby con t inued in force from and after t h e said thir ty-first day of A u g u s t nex t u n t i l t he thir ty-f i rs t day of December one t h o u s a n d

e ight h u n d r e d and fifty-three except so m u c h thereof as relates to the

t i m e of pass ing a n d execut ion of any sentence of dea th as is there in

men t ioned Provided always t h a t n o t h i n g in t h e said first reci ted

A c t contained shall be deemed to au thor ize a n y Jus t i ce of t h e Peace to cause any person to be removed to Sydney to be examined unless such person shall have been apprehended wi th in t he Police Distr ic t of Sydney or informat ion shal l have been given on oa th by some credible witness before such Jus t i ce t h a t t he re a re s t rong g rounds for suspect ing such person to be a t r anspor ted felon or offender i l legally a t la rge Provided also t h a t no female shall be so removed

to Sydney a n y t h i n g in th i s or t h e said first reci ted Act to t h e	contrary
no twi ths tand ing .
