Nursing Regulations 2005

I, the Governor in and over the State of Tasmania and its Dependencies in the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, make the following regulations under the Nursing Act 1995 .28 November 2005

1Short titleThese regulations may be cited as the Nursing Regulations 2005 . 2CommencementThese regulations take effect on the day on which their making is notified in the Gazette. 3InterpretationIn these regulations – Act means the Nursing Act 1995 . 4Area of practice of nurse practitioner to be restricted practice areaFor the purposes of section 31(c) of the Act, the area of nursing practice performed by a nurse practitioner is prescribed as a restricted practice area. 5Qualifications, training and experience required for nurse practitionerFor the purposes of section 32(c) of the Act, a registered nurse may apply for an authorisation to practise as a nurse practitioner if he or she – (a) has successfully completed an accredited nurse practitioner course; or (b) has the qualifications, training and experience in the area of practice of a nurse practitioner that the Board considers to be at least substantially equivalent to an accredited nurse practitioner course. 6Prescription of nurse practitioner as title for purposes of section 76 of ActFor the purposes of section 76(j) of the Act, the title of nurse practitioner is prescribed as a title under which a person, other than a registered nurse or an enrolled nurse, must not practise a profession or trade.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the regulation) These regulations prescribe –

(a) the area of practice of a nurse practitioner as a restricted practice area; and (b) the qualifications, training and experience required of a nurse practitioner; and (c) the title of nurse practitioner as a title under which a person who is not a registered nurse or an enrolled nurse must not practise a profession or trade.
