NURSES ACT 1991—REGULATION

(Relating to exemptions from registration requirements)

HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Nurses Act 1991, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder.

The Nurses Regulation 1992 is amended by inserting after clause 5 the

following clause:

Exemption relating to psychiatric nursing

5A. The Board may grant an exemption from the requirements of section 18 (a) of the Act for registration as a nurse in List “A” of the Register to a person who:

(a) is registered in List “B” of the Register; and

(b) has successfully completed a course in psychiatric nursing having a curriculum, and conducted at an institution, recognised

by the Nurses Registration Board under the Nurses Registration

Act 1953 (as in force immediately before its repeal); and

(c)

has successfully completed that course on or before 31 December 1992, but after the commencement of Schedule 2 (3) to the Nurses Registration (Amendment) Act 1985.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The object of this Regulation is to prescribe for the purposes of section 10 (1) (i) of the Nurses Act 1991 a case where the Nurses Registration Board may exempt persons applying for registration on List “A” of the Register of Nurses from

meeting the course and award requirements of section 18 (a) of that Act.

The case is one where nurses already on List “B” of the Register have

successfully completed a psychiatric nursing course that was recognised by the

Board under the repealed Nurses Registration Act 1953.
