Nuclear Non-Proliferation (Safeguards) Regulations2 (Amendment)

I. THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia. acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation (Safeguards) Act 1987.

1. Amendment

1.1 The Nuclear Non-Proliferation (Safeguards) Regulations are amended as set out in these Regulations.

2. New regulation 2a

2.1 After regulation 2, insert:

Prescribed international agreements

"2a. The international agreements specified in the Schedule are prescribed for the purposes of paragraph (b) of the definition of "prescribed international agreement' in subsection 4 (1) of the Act.".

3. Regulation 3 (Nuclear material to which Part II of the Act does not apply)

3.1 Subregulation 3 (1):

Add at the end:

"(g) depleted uranium:

(i) that is not subject to the provisions of a prescribed international agreement; and

(ii) that has been used in the manufacture or assembly of an object that is not being used in nuclear activities.".

4. New Schedule

4.1 At the end of the Regulations, insert:
