By-laws under the Charles Darwin University Act

1Citation

These By-laws may be cited as the Northern Territory University (Powers and Responsibilities of the Vice-Chancellor) By-laws.

2Power of Vice-Chancellor

Subject to the Act, the by-laws and any resolution of the Council, the Vice-Chancellor, as the chief executive officer of the University:

  • (a)

    may, within the limits and for purposes expressed in the budget of the University (or outside those limits and purposes in an emergency), commit the funds of the University; and

  • (b)

    may, in the name of the Council, exercise the powers of the Council (other than the power to make by-laws or rules) with respect to any matter:

    • (i)

      of a routine and minor nature; or

    • (ii)

      which, by reason of its urgency, requires immediate action, and shall report regularly to the Council on the exercise of those powers and may give such directions as are necessary and reasonable to put such authority and powers into effect.

    3Vice-Chancellor is ex officio member of committees, &c.

The Vice-Chancellor is, by virtue of his or her office, a member of each committee of the Council and of each committee and board of the University established by or with the authority of the Council.
