REGULATIONS UNDER THE NORTHERN TERRITORY (ADMINISTRATION) ACT 1910- 1952.*

I, THEGOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910-1952.

Northern Territory Legislative Council (Fees and Expenses) Regulations.

Citation.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Northern Territory Legislative Council (Fees and Expenses) Regulations.

Commencement.

2. These Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the first day of January, 1953.

Repeal.

3. The Northern Territory Legislative Council (Fees and Expenses) Regulations (comprising Statutory Rules 1948, No. 24; Statutory Rules 1949, No. 77; Statutory Rules 1950, No. 34; and Statutory Rules 1951, No. 98) are repealed.

Definition.

4. In these Regulations, “meeting” means a meeting of the Council or of a Select Committee appointed by the Council.

Fees of elected member of Council.

5.—(1.) An elected member of the Council shall be paid—

(a) a fee of One hundred and twenty five pounds per annum; and

(b)a fee of Five pounds five shillings for each day on which he attends a meeting or is deemed, in pursuance of the next succeeding sub-regulation, to have attended a meeting.

(2.) An elected member of the Council shall be deemed to have attended a meeting on a day upon which he is necessarily absent from his home for the purpose of attending, or as the result of having attended, a meeting except a day upon which he leaves home after midday or returns home before midday.

Travelling allowance of elected member of Council.

6.—(1.) An elected member of the Council, while absent from his home overnight for the purpose of his attendance at a meeting, shall be paid—

(a)where his sustenance is provided free of charge—a travelling allowance of Fifteen shillings per day; and

(b) in any other case—a travelling allowance of Three pounds per day.

(2.)Where the Administrator so approves, an elected member of the Council shall, in addition to a travelling allowance under the last preceding sub-regulation, be paid the amount of his transport expenses to and from a place at which a meeting is held.
