REGULATIONS UNDER THE NORTHERN TERRITORY

(ADMINISTRATION) ACT 1910-1956.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910-1956.

Amendments of the Northern Territory Legislative Council (Fees and Expenses) Regulations. 

Commencement.

1. These Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the first day of January, 1957.

Fees of elected member of Council.

2. Regulation 5 of the Northern Territory Legislative Council (Fees and Expenses) Regulations is amended by omitting from paragraph (a)of sub-regulation (1.) the words “One hundred and twenty-five pounds per annum” and inserting in their stead the words “One hundred and fifty pounds per annum”.

Travelling allowance of elected member of Council.

3. Regulation 6 of the Northern Territory Legislative Council (Fees and Expenses) Regulations is amended by omitting from paragraph (b)of sub-regulation (1.) the words “Three pounds per day” and inserting in their stead the words “Three pounds ten shillings per day”.

Transport expenses of elected member of council.

4. After regulation 6 of the Northern Territory Legislative Council (Fees and Expenses) Regulations the following regulation is added:—

“7.—(1.) Where an elected member of the Council makes a journey for the purpose of visiting, in his capacity as an elected member of the Council, a place or places in his Electoral District, the Administrator may, subject to the next succeeding sub-regulation, authorize, with respect to the whole, or such part as he considers reasonable, of the journey—

(a)the reimbursement to the member of the cost of his fare for so much of the whole, or the part, of the journey as was made by means of public transport; and

(b)the payment to the member of a mileage allowance, in accordance with the following table, for so much of the whole, or the part, of the journey as was made by means of a motor vehicle not engaged in public transport:—

“(2.) Except in exceptional circumstances, the Administrator shall not authorize a reimbursement or payment, for the purpose of the last preceding sub-regulation, with respect to more than two visits by the one member to the one place made within the period of twelve months commencing on the first day of January in a year.”.
