REGULATIONS UNDER THE NORTHERN TERRITORY

(ADMINISTRATION) ACT 1910-1959.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910-1959.

NORTHERN TERRITORY LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL (FEES, ALLOWANCES AND EXPENSES) REGULATIONS.

Citation.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Northern Territory Legislative Council (Fees, Allowances and Expenses) Regulations.

Repeal.

2. The Northern Territory Legislative Council (Fees and Expenses) Regulations (comprising Statutory Rules 1953, No. 63; Statutory Rules 1958, No. 12 and Statutory Rules 1959, No. 34) are repealed.

Definitions.

3. In these Regulations—

“Electoral District” means an Electoral District of the Northern Territory the boundaries of which are prescribed by the Northern Territory Electoral Districts Regulations;

“meeting” means a meeting of the Legislative Council or of a Select Committee appointed by the Legislative Council.

Fees of elected and non-official members.

4. Each elected member and each non-official member of the Legislative Council shall receive a fee at the rate of Four hundred pounds a year.

Electoral allowances for elected members.

5. An elected member of the Legislative Council shall receive an allowance in respect of the expenses of discharging his duties—

(a)if he is a member for the Electoral District of Fannie Bay, Larrakeyah or Port Darwin—at the rate of One hundred pounds a year; or

(b)if he is a member for another Electoral District—at the rate of Two hundred pounds a year.

Travelling allowances of elected and non-official members.

6. Where an elected member or a non-official member of the Legislative Council is absent from his home overnight by reason of his attendance at a meeting, the member shall receive travelling allowance at the rate of Five pounds five shillings a day for each hour during which he is so absent from his home.

Travelling expenses for elected and non-official members.

7. Where an elected or a non-official member of the Legislative Council makes a journey for the purpose of attending a meeting or for the purpose of attending to business of the Legislative Council, the Administrator may authorize in respect of the whole, or such part as he considers reasonable, of the journey—

(a)the reimbursement to the member of the cost of his fare for so much of the whole, or the part, of the journey as was made by public transport; and

(b)the payment to the member of a mileage allowance, in accordance with the following table, for so much of the whole, or the part, of the journey as was made by means of a motor vehicle not engaged in public transport:—
