REGULATIONS UNDER THE NORTHERN TERRITORY REPRESENTATION ACT 1922-1959, THE NORTHERN TERRITORY (ADMINISTRATION) ACT 1910-1965 AND THE COMMONWEALTH ELECTORAL ACT 1918-1966.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Northern Territory Representation Act 1922-1959, the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910-1965 and the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918-1966.

Amendments of the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations.  

Authorized witnesses.

1. Regulation 96 of the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (1.) the words “electors of” and inserting in their stead the words “Electors for”.

Manner of preliminary scrutiny of postal votes.

2. Regulation 116 of the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended by adding at the end of paragraph (h) the word “and”.

First Schedule— Form 2.

3. Form 2 in the First Schedule to the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting the words “[Front of Form.]”;

(b) by omitting the words—

“Date and year Place Former Surname*

of birth of birth (* See Instruction (D)on other side.)”

and inserting in their stead the words—

“Date and year Place Former 

of birth of birth surname”;

(c) by omitting the words “Before filling in or witnessing this claim, carefully read instructions on other side”; and

4. Form 8 in the First Schedule to the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended by omitting the words—

“NOTIFICATION TO A PERSON ALLEGED TO HAVE FAILED TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF REGULATION 25 [here insert number of sub-regulation] OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY ELECTORAL REGULATIONS.

and inserting in their stead the words—

“To—

NOTIFICATION TO A PERSON WHO APPEARS TO HAVE FAILED TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF REGULATION 25 [here insert number of sub-regulation]OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY ELECTORAL REGULATIONS RELATING TO COMPULSORY ENROLMENT.”.

5. Form 9 in the First Schedule to the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended by omitting the words—

“DECLARATION OF PERSON ALLEGED TO HAVE FAILED TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF REGULATION 25 OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY ELECTORAL REGULATIONS.”

and inserting in their stead the words—

“DECLARATION BY A PERSON ALLEGED TO HAVE FAILED TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF REGULATION 25 [here insert number of sub-regulation] OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY ELECTORAL REGULATIONS RELATING TO COMPULSORY ENROLMENT.”.

First Schedule— Form 10.

6. Form 10 in the First Schedule to the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended by omitting the words—

“CONSENT OF PERSON ALLEGED TO HAVE FAILED TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF REGULATION 25 OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY ELECTORAL REGULATIONS TO THE MATTER BEING DEALT WITH BY THE RETURNING OFFICER FOR THE TERRITORY.”

and inserting in their stead the words—

“CONSENT BY A PERSON ALLEGED TO HAVE FAILED TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF REGULATION 25 [here insert number of sub-regulation]OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY ELECTORAL REGULATIONS RELATING TO COMPULSORY ENROLMENT WHO DESIRES TO HAVE THE MATTER DEALT WITH BY THE RETURNING OFFICER FOR THE TERRITORY.”.

7. Form 11 in the First Schedule to the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended by omitting the words—

“NOTIFICATION OF PENALTY IMPOSED BY RETURNING OFFICER FOR CONTRAVENTION OF REGULATION 25 OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY ELECTORAL REGULATIONS.

and inserting in their stead the words—

“To—

8.16 in the First Schedule to the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended by omitting the words—

9. Form 21 in the First Schedule to the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended by omitting the words—

“Note.—A person making any untrue statement in this Declaration is liable to a Penalty of Twenty Pounds..

First Schedule— Form 22.

10.Form 22 in the First Schedule to the Northern Territory Electoral; Regulations is amended by omitting the words—

“Note.—A person making any untrue statement in this declaration is liable to a penalty of Twenty pounds.”.

Amendments in relation to decimal currency.

11. The Northern Territory Electoral Regulations are amended as set out in the Schedule to these Regulations.
