REGULATIONS UNDER THE NORTHERN TERRITORY REPRESENTATION ACT 1922, THE NORTHERN TERRITORY (ADMINISTRATION) ACT 1910 AND THE COMMONWEALTH ELECTORAL ACT 1918.*

I, THE ADMINISTRATOR of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Northern Territory Representation Act 1922, the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910 and the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918.

Amendments of the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations 

Informal ballot-papers.

1. Regulation 111 of the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended by omitting sub-regulation (3).

Repeal of regulation 111A.

2. Regulation 111a of the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is repealed.

Informal absent voters’ ballot-papers.

3. Regulation 118d of the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended by omitting sub-regulation (7).

Repeal of regulation 118da.

4. Regulation 118da of the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is repealed.

Scrutiny of votes in Legislative Assembly elections.

5. Regulation 120 of the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting sub-regulation (2); and

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (4) the words “ and ballot-papers excluded from that count under sub-regulation (2) ”.

Schedule.

6. The Schedule to the Northern Territory Electoral Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from Form 20 all the words after the word “ Directions:— ” to and including the words “ as you so desire ” and substituting the words “ Mark your vote on this ballot-paper by placing the numbers [here insert ‘1  and 2 ’ where there are 2 candidates, ‘ 1, 2 and 3 ’ where there are 3 candidates, ‘ 1, 2, 3 and 4 ’ where there are 4 candidates, and so on, as the case requires] in the squares respectively opposite to the names of the candidates so as to indicate the order of your preference for them ”;

(b) by omitting from Form 26 all the words after the word “ Directions:— ” to and including the words “ as you so desire ” and substituting the words “ Mark your vote on this ballot-paper by placing the numbers [here insert ‘1 and 2 ’ where there are 2 candidates, ‘ 1, 2 and 3 ’ where there are 3 candidates, ‘ 1, 2, 3 and 4 ’ where there are 4 candidates, and so on, as the case requires] in the squares respectively opposite to the names of the candidates so as to indicate the order of your preference for them ”; and
