REGULATIONS UNDER THE NORTHERN TERRITORY

(ADMINISTRATION) ACT 1910-1959.*

WHEREAS by section four c of the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910-1959 it is provided, amongst other things, that for the purposes of the election of the members of the Legislative Council for the Territory referred to in paragraph (d)of sub-section (2.) of section four of that Act, the Northern Territory of Australia shall be distributed into eight Electoral Districts:

And whereas by section four CA of that Act it is provided, amongst other things, that the boundaries of each Electoral District shall be as prescribed, after report to the Minister by a Distribution Committee appointed under section four CC of that Act.

And whereas the Distribution Committee so appointed has forwarded to the Minister of State for Territories a report in accordance with section four CH of that Act:

Now therefore I, the Governor-General in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910-1959.

NORTHERN TERRITORY ELECTORAL DISTRICTS REGULATIONS.

Citation.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Northern Territory Electoral Districts Regulations.

Definitions.

2. In these Regulations—

"North Australia Railway" means the railway between Darwin and Birdum;

"the town of Darwin" means the land in the Territory described in the Schedule to the Darwin Lands Acquisition Act 1945.

Boundaries of Electoral Districts.

3. For the purposes of the election of members of the Legislative Council referred to in paragraph (d) of sub-section (2.) of section 4 of the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910-1959—

(a)the eight Electoral Districts referred to in section four C of that Act shall be known as the Electoral District of Fannie Bay, the Electoral District of Larrakeyah, the Electoral District of Port Darwin, the Electoral District of Arnhem, the Electoral District of Elsey, the Electoral District of Barkly, the Electoral District of Alice Springs and the Electoral District of Stuart, respectively; and

(b)the boundaries of each of those Electoral Districts are the boundaries respectively set out in the Schedule to these Regulations in relation to that Electoral District.

THE SCHEDULE. Regulation 3.

BOUNDARIES OF ELECTORAL DISTRICTS.

Name of Electoral District.

Boundaries.

Electoral District of Fannie Bay

Commencing at the junction of Mindil Beach Road and Gilruth Avenue; thence north-west by Mindil Beach Road and its prolongation to high water mark; thence due west to low water mark; thence by that low water mark, being the boundary of the town of Darwin, and by that boundary northerly, north-westerly north-easterly and south-easterly through the centre of Ludmilla Creek to its intersection with a western boundary of the Bagot Aboriginal Reserve; thence southerly and generally easterly by that boundary to the north-east corner of the town of Darwin; thence southerly to the North Australia Railway line; thence generally south-westerly by the North Australia Railway line to the southerly junction of that railway line and the old Vestey spurline; thence by that spurline north-west to Gilruth Avenue; thence south-westerly by Gilruth Avenue to the point of commencement.

Electoral District of Larrakeyah

Commencing at the junction of the North Australia Railway line with the eastern boundary of the town of Darwin; thence by that boundary southerly and by Sadgroves Creek to a point at low water mark east of the railway station; thence west to the North Australia Railway line; thence along that railway line northerly and northwesterly to Daly Street Bridge; thence south-west by the centre of Daly Street and its prolongation to low water mark; thence north-westerly, northerly and generally northerly along low water mark to a point due west of the intersection of Mindil Beach Road and its prolongation and high water mark; thence east to that intersection; thence by that prolongation of Mindil Beach Road and by Mindil Beach Road to Gilruth Avenue; thence northeasterly by Gilruth Avenue to the old Vestey spurline; thence south-east by that spurline to the North Australia Railway line; thence northerly and generally north-easterly along that railway line to the point of commencement.

Electoral District of Port Darwin

Commencing at Daly Street Bridge; thence by the North Australia Railway line south-easterly and southerly to the railway station; thence due east to low water mark; thence southerly, westerly and

north-westerly along that low water mark and along the boundaries of all wharves, jetties, breakwaters and other erections contiguous to, on, or extending over, that low water mark to the south-west prolongation of the centre of Daly Street; thence northeasterly by that prolongation and the centre of Daly Street to the point of commencement.

Electoral District of Arnhem

Outer boundaries—

Commencing at the intersection of parallel of latitude 10° 50" south and the 138th meridian of east longitude; thence by that meridian south to a point due east of Port Roper; thence due west to Port Roper; thence generally westerly by the centre of Roper River to the south-west corner of Mission Lease 9 ; thence by the boundaries of the Arnhem Land Aboriginal Reserve by lines north and west to the intersection of the boundaries of that Reserve with the eastern boundary of Mainoru Station; thence north to the north-east corner of that Station; thence west to the north-west corner of that Station; thence south to the intersection of the western boundary of that Station with the boundaries of that Reserve; thence west to the south-west corner of that Reserve; thence north by the west boundary of that Reserve to a point due east of the northeast corner of Goodparla Station; thence west to that last-mentioned corner; thence west by the north boundary of Pastoral Lease 365 and onwards to the northernmost northwest corner of Pastoral Lease 168; thence due south for five miles; thence west by the north boundaries of Pastoral Leases 168, 169, 360, 324 and 2509; thence south to a north-east corner of Northern Territory Portion 210; thence west by the north boundaries of that Portion and Pastoral Lease 562 and the production west of those boundaries to the intersection with the 129th meridian of east longitude; thence by that meridian north to parallel of latitude 10° 50" south; thence east by that parallel to the point of commencement.

Inner boundaries—

The boundaries of the Electoral District of Fannie Bay, the Electoral District of Larrakeyah and the Electoral District of Port Darwin, other than the boundaries between the Electoral District of Fannie Bay and the Electoral District of Larrakeyah and the boundaries between the Electoral District of Larrakeyah and the Electoral District of Port Darwin.

Electoral District of Elsey

Commencing at a point on the 138th meridian of east longitude due east of Port Roper: thence south by the meridian to the south-east corner of Pastoral Lease 2287; west by the south boundary of that Pastoral Lease to the south-east corner of Pastoral Lease 2443; thence west, generally south-westerly and west by the boundaries of Pastoral Lease 2443 to its south-west corner; thence west to the north-east corner of Pastoral Lease 183; thence west, south, and again west by parts of the boundaries of Pastoral Lease 183 to the east boundary of Pastoral Lease 514; thence south, west, and north by parts of the boundaries of Pastoral Lease 514 to a north-east corner of Pastoral Lease 531; thence west and south by parts of the boundaries of Pastoral Lease 531 to the north boundary of Pastoral Lease 420; thence west to the east boundary of Pastoral Lease 415; thence south to the south-east corner of Pastoral Lease 415; thence by a line west to a point 16,153 links east of the south-west corner of Pastoral Lease 415; thence south, west, and again south by parts of the boundaries of Pastoral

Electoral District of Barkly

Commencing at a point on the 138th meridian of east longitude, being the south-east corner of Pastoral Lease 533; thence south by that meridian to the twenty-sixth parallel of south latitude; thence west by that parallel to its intersection with the 129th meridian of east longitude; thence north by the 129th meridian to the twentieth parallel of south latitude; thence east by that twentieth parallel to its intersection with a western boundary of Pastoral Lease 430; thence south and east by parts of the boundaries of Pastoral Lease 430 to its south-east corner; thence south and east to the southernmost south-east corner of Pastoral Lease 429; thence north to a south-west corner of Pastoral Lease 542; thence by the boundaries of Pastoral Lease 542 east, south-easterly, south and again east to the south-east corner of Pastoral Lease 542; thence north to a south-west corner of Pastoral Lease 533; thence east, south and again east by parts of the boundaries of Pastoral Lease 533 to the point of commencement.
