REGULATIONS UNDER THE NORTHERN TERRITORY (ADMINISTRATION) ACT 1910-1962.*

 

WHEREAS by section 4c of the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910-1962 it is provided, amongst other things, that for the purposes of the election of the members of the Legislative Council for the Territory referred to in paragraph (d)of sub-section (2.) of section 4 of that Act, the Northern Territory of Australia shall be distributed into eight Electoral Districts:

And whereas by section 4ca of that Act it is provided, amongst other things, that the boundaries of each Electoral District shall be as prescribed, after report to the Minister by a Distribution Committee appointed under section 4cc of that Act:

And whereas the Minister of State for Territories has, in pursuance of section 4cb of that Act, directed that a distribution of the Territory into Electoral Districts be made:

And whereas the Distribution Committee appointed under section 4cc of that Act has forwarded to the Minister of State for Territories a report in accordance with section 4ch of that Act:

Now therefore I, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910-1962.

Northern Territory Electoral Districts Regulations

Citation.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Northern Territory Electoral Districts Regulations.

Repeal.

2. The Northern Territory Electoral Districts Regulations (being Statutory Rules 1962, No. 95) are repealed.

Definitions.

3. In these Regulations—

“North Australia Railway” means the railway between Darwin and Birdum;

“the town of Darwin” means the land in the Territory described in the Schedule to the Proclamation under the Crown Lands Ordinance 1931-1948 of the Territory published in the Gazette on the nineteenth day of January, One thousand nine hundred and fifty.

Boundaries of Electoral Districts.

4.For the purposes of the election of members of the Legislative Council referred to in paragraph (d) of sub-section (2.) of section 4 of the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910-1962—

(a)the eight Electoral Districts referred to in section 4c of that Act shall be known as the Electoral District of Nightcliff, the Electoral District of Fannie Bay, the Electoral District of Port Darwin, the Electoral District of Arnhem, the Electoral District of Elsey, the Electoral District of Barkly, the Electoral District of Alice Springs and the Electoral District of Stuart, respectively; and

(b)the boundaries of each of those Electoral Districts are the boundaries respectively set out in the Schedule to these Regulations in relation to that Electoral District.

BOUNDARIES OF ELECTORAL DISTRICTS

Commencing at the intersection of the centreline of Rapid Creek and the centreline of McMillan’s Road; thence westerly by the centreline of McMillans Road to its intersection with the centreline of Bagot Road; thence southerly by the centreline of Bagot Road to its intersection with the boundary of the town of Darwin; thence westerly northwesterly southwesterly northerly and northwesterly by that boundary to the mouth of Ludmilla Creek; thence by the sea coast generally northerly and northeasterly to the centreline of Rapid Creek; thence generally southerly by the centreline of Rapid Creek to the point of commencement.

 

Electoral District of Fannie Bay

Commencing at the intersection of the centreline of Mindil Beach Road and the centreline of Gilruth Avenue; thence northwesterly by the centreline of Mindil Beach Road and its prolongation to high water mark; thence west to low water mark; thence by low water mark generally northerly and northwesterly to a point west of East Point; thence east to the sea coast at East Point; thence generally easterly by the sea coast to the centreline of Ludmilla Creek being the boundary of the town of Darwin; thence by that proclaimed boundary southeasterly southerly northeasterly southeasterly and easterly to its intersection with the centreline of Bagot Road; thence southerly along the centreline of Bagot Road and southeasterly along the centreline of Snell Street and its prolongation southeasterly to its intersection with the centreline of Sadgroves Creek being the boundary of the town of Darwin; thence westerly and southerly along that boundary to a point east of the most eastern corner of Lot 1908; thence west to that corner; thence northwesterly and westerly along boundaries of Lot 1908 and Lot 1909 to anorthern corner of Lot 1909; thence northwesterly to the eastern corner of Lot 2048; thence northwesterly and southwesterly by boundaries of that Lot to the prolongation of the centreline of Henry Street; thence northwesterly and westerly by that prolongation the centreline of Henry Street and its prolongation westerly to the centreline of the North Australia Railway; thence northerly by that centreline and northwesterly by the centreline of the old Vesty Spur-line to the centreline of Gilruth Avenue; thence generally southwesterly by that centreline to the point of commencement.
