An
Act to amend the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910-1947.

BE
it enacted by the King’s Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate, and the House of Representatives
of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:—
Short
title and citation.
1.—(1.) This Act may be cited as the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1949.
(2.) The Northern
Territory (Administration) Act 1910–1947 is in this Act referred
to as the Principal Act.
(3.) The Principal Act, as amended by this Act,
may be cited as the Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910–1949.
Commencement.
2.This Act shall come into operation on the day on which
it receives the Royal Assent.
Session
and prorogation of Council.
3. Section four m of
the Principal Act is amended by adding at the end thereof the following
sub-section:—
“(2.) At the request of at least seven members, the
Administrator shall, by notice published in the Government Gazette of the Territory, appoint a time, being not
later than fourteen days after the day on which he receives the request, for
holding a session of the Council.”.

4. Section four p
of the Principal Act is amended by omitting the word “Chairman” and inserting
in its stead the word “President”.
The
Schedule.
5. The Schedule to the Principal Act is amended—
(a) by omitting from the description of
the Tennant Creek District in the column headed “Description” the word “twenty”
and inserting in its stead the word “forty”; and
(b
