I, Paul Murphy, A/g Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Fisheries Management Authority, as delegate in accordance with s41A of the Fisheries Management Act 1991, make the following Direction.

Citation
1. This Direction may be cited as North West Slope Fishery Direction No. 02.
Commencement
2. This Direction commences on the day it is registered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments.
Application
3.This Direction applies to a holder of a permit in the North West Slope Fishery (the Fishery), and to a person acting on behalf of the holder, when fishing in the North West Slope Fishery area.
Period of Application
4.This Direction applies for a period beginning on the date this Direction commences until such time as the Direction is revoked, repealed or 31 December 2010, whichever is the earlier.
Interpretation
5.1 In this Direction:
"fishing" means the commercial fishing activities that are referred to in section 4 of the Fisheries Management Act 1991
5.2 A term used in this Direction that is defined for the purposes of the Fisheries Management Act 1991 has the same meaning in this Direction as it has in that Act.
5.3The origin of geographical coordinates used in this Direction is the World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS84).
Prohibition on fishing
6It is directed that fishing not be engaged in the area of the Fishery described in Schedule 1 during the period of application specified in paragraph 4.
SCHEDULE 1
Closure of northeast area of the North West Slope Fishery
The area of the North West Slope Fishery that is closed to fishing is the part of the AFZ within and bounded by a line commencing at the point of latitude 11º 55' south, longitude 125º east (Point 1).
Thence south westerly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 13º 02' 29.1" south, longitude 124º 11' 51.8" east, (Point 2).
Thence generally north-westerly along the geodesics sequentially connecting the following points:

Thence north easterly along the geodesic to the point of Latitude 12º 17’ 27.0” south, Longitude 123º 21’ 30.0” east (Point 21) closest to the point which is twelve miles distant from the nearest base point of the territorial sea of Ashmore Island;
Thence following a line each point of which is twelve miles distant from the nearest base point of the territorial sea of Ashmore Island to the point Latitude 12º 19’ south, Longitude 123º 21’ east (Point 22); and
Thence north easterly along the geodesic back to the point of commencement.
