Works Act, 1900, the Legislative Asscmhly did, by resolution,

declare that it was e.vpcdient to carry out a certain work, namely, extending the Southern Breakwater, Neweastle Ilarbour Entrance: And whereas, on the passing of the said resolution, a statutory duty was by the said Act imposed on the Sceretary for Public Works to introduce a Bill into the said Assembly to sanction the earrying out of the said work : Be it therefore enacted by the King’s Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of Xew South AVales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—^

Sliort title.

1. This Act may be cited as the “ Newcastle Southern Break­ water Extension Act, 1912.”

Work sanctioned.

2. The carrying out of the work, more particularly described in the Schedule of this Act, is hereby sanctioned, and the Secretary for Public Works, or the member of the Executive Council for the time being performing the duties of the said Secretary, is hereby authorised to undertake and carry out the said works, subject to the provisions of this A ct; and for that purpose shall he and shall have the powers and duties of a Constructing Authority within the meaning of the Public Works Act, 1900.

3. The plan of the said works is the plan marked “ Newcastle Harbour, Extension of Southern Breakwater,” signed by the Secretary for Public Works, and countersigned by the Chief Engineer for Public IVorks, Newcastle district, and deposited in the public office of the said Secretary.

Cost, and hovr

4. The cost of Cttrrying out the said works, estimated at fifty- four thousand pounds, may he defrayed from sucli loan votes as are now, or may hereafter he applicable to that purpose, or from appro­ priations of the Public Works Eund, or partly from such votes and partly from the said ai>propriations, and shall not, under any circum­ stances, exceed the estimated cost by more than ten per centum.

SCHEDULE.

Tine construction of an extension of the existing Southern Breakwater beyond its present termination for a di,stance of 460 feet seawards, marked Exten.sion of Soutliern Breakwater ” on plan aforesaid.

The Breakwater to be strengthened at its outer end by a round head 60 feet in

diameter.

The wliole of the above work.s to bo subject to sucli modiiication.s as may he

considered desirable by the Constructing Authority.
