STATUTORY RULES.
REGULATIONS UNDER THE NAVIGATION ACT 1912-1935.*
I,
THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the
advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations
under the

Amendment of the Navigation (Wireless Telegraphy) Regulations.
“9a.— (1.) Every ship to which these Regulations apply shall be provided with—
(
a )two approved aerial masts, one of which shall be kept in a lifeboat on the port side and the other in a lifeboat on the starboard side of the ship, together with a length of aerial wire to be kept with the apparatus mentioned in paragraph (b ) of this sub-regulation;(
b )an approved portable wireless transmitting apparatus which shall be kept in the chart room or other approved room ready to be placed in one or other of the lifeboats mentioned in paragraph (a )of this sub-regulation for immediate use in the event of an emergency; and(
c ) approved means, which shall be kept in the same room as the transmitting apparatus, of charging the batteries of the apparatus.
“(2.) All batteries for use in connexion with the transmitting apparatus shall be fully charged once a month. A record of all such chargings shall be made by the master of the ship and kept in the chart room.
“(3.) Nothing in this regulation shall apply in the case of ships which, in pursuance of the Navigation (Life-saving Appliances) Regulations, carry one or more motor lifeboats fitted with a wireless telegraphy installation approved by the Director.

“(4.) For the purposes of this Regulation, unless the contrary intention appears, ‘approved’ means approved by the Postmaster-General.”.
