REGULATIONS UNDER THE NAVIGATION ACT 1912-1935.*
I, THE
GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the
advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations
under the

Amendments of the Navigation (Survey and Equipment) Regulations.
“32.—(1.) Every British ship (except river and bay ships and limited coast-trade ships not exceeding 15 tons gross register) in respect of which a Certificate of Survey or a Certificate of Equipment under these Regulations has been granted and is in force shall be provided with sounding equipment in accordance with the provisions of sub-regulations (2.) and (3.) of this regulation and the table set out in Schedule III. to these Regulations.
(2.) The echo deep-sea sounding machine or the mechanical deep-sea sounding machine referred to in the table set out in Schedule III to these Regulations shall be of a type approved by the Director.
(3.) Where a mechanical deep-sea sounding machine is provided, it shall be complete with necessary attachments, including at least 300 fathoms of wire, two leads of at least 28 pounds weight, and either an automatic spring depth recording device or a sufficient supply of glass depth recording tubes with scale.”.

* If the ship is provided with a mechanical deep-sea sounding machine which is provided with a second, or spare, drum carrying not less than 300 fathoms of wire, it shall not be necessary to provide the ship with a deep-sea lead-line and its attachments.
If the ship is provided with an efficient sounding machine, it shall not be necessary to provide more than one deep-sea lead-line, with its attachments. If a second, or spare, drum for the sounding machine, with an extra 300 fathoms of wire, is provided, it shall not be necessary to provide the ship with a deep-sea lead-line and its attachments.”.
