REGULATIONS UNDER THE NAVIGATION ACT 1912-1920.

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Navigation Act 1912-1920, to come into operation forthwith.

Amendment of Navigation (Manning and Accommodation) Regulations.

(Statutory Rules 1921, No. 84, as amended by Statutory Rules 1921, Nos. 195, 211 and 241.)

1. After regulation 5b of the Navigation (Manning and Accommodation) Regulations 1921, the following regulation is inserted:—

Equivalents of certain ratings.

“5bb. For the purposes of Section 43 and Schedule II. to the Act, the number of persons of the rating specified in the first column hereunder shall be deemed to be the equivalent of the number of persons of the ratings specified in the second column hereunder, but not conversely:—

2. After regulation 5d of the Navigation (Manning and Accommodation) Regulations 1921, the following regulation is inserted:—

Firemen and trimmers to be carried by certain ships.

“5dd. Until otherwise prescribed, the number of firemen and trimmers to be carried by the undermentioned ships shall, in lieu of the number of those ratings prescribed by Schedule II. to the Act, be as follows:—

(a)Subject to the condition that the temporary bulkhead erected to divide off, for bunker purposes portion of No. 2 ’tween deck or shelter deck, as the case may be, be not more than 44 feet, or under the beam nearest to that distance, from the forward permanent stokehold bulkhead.

(b) Subject to the conditions that the temporary bulkhead erected to divide off, for bunker purposes, portion of No. 2 lower hold, be not more than 32 feet, or under the beam nearest to that distance, from the forward permanent stokehold bulkhead, and that the temporary bulkhead erected to divide off, for bunker purposes, portion ofNo. 2 hold shelter deck, be not more than 44 feet, or under the beam nearest to that distance, from the forward permanent stokehold bulkhead.

 

3. After regulation 5f of the Navigation (Manning and Accommodation) Regulations 1921, the following regulations are inserted:—

“5ff. Until otherwise prescribed, the number of seamen to be carried by the undermentioned ships as deck hands shall, in lieu of the number prescribed by Schedule II. to the Act, be as follows:—

Shipwrights or ships’ carpenters on certain ships.

“5h (1) Until otherwise prescribed, the undermentioned ships shall not be required to carry shipwrights or ships’ carpenters whilst trading within the limits and complying with the condition specified hereunder, viz.:—

(2) Until otherwise prescribed, the undermentioned ship, whilst engaged in the trade between Sydney or Newcastle and Hobart, shall carry shipwrights or ships’ carpenters as under:—
