REGULATIONS UNDER THE NAVIGATION ACT 1912*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Navigation Act 1912.

AMENDMENTS OF THE NAVIGATION (LIFE-SAVING APPLIANCES) REGULATIONS 

Interpretation

1. Regulation 5 of the Navigation (Life-saving Appliances) Regulations is amended—

(a) by inserting after the definition of “ approved ” in sub-regulation (1) the following definition:

“ ‘ authorized officer ’ means a person holding, or for the time being performing the duties of, an office in the Department of Transport that is specified for the purposes of this definition by the Minister by instrument in writing;”; and

(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (1) the definition of “ Regional Controller ”.

Special exemption of intrastate ships

2. Regulation 79 of the Navigation (Life-saving Appliances) Regulations is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (c) “ a Regional Controller ” and substituting “ an authorized officer ”; and
