Navigation (Fire Appliances) Regulations (Amendment) (Cth)

THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice
of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under
the

“(4) For the purposes of these Regulations, a ship shall be deemed to have reached a stage of construction similar to the laying of a keel when —
(a) construction identifiable with the particular ship has begun; and
(b) a portion of the ship, having a mass of not less than—
(i) 50 tonnes; or
(ii) one per cent of the estimated mass of all structural material of the ship as proposed to be completed,
whichever is the lesser, has been fabricated and finally assembled.”.

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (4) all the words after “Safety Convention ship”; and
(b) by adding at the end thereof the following sub-regulation:
“(5) A reference in sub-regulation (1) or (2) to a ship shall be read as not including a reference to a ship the keel of which is, or was, laid, or which reaches, or reached, a similar stage of construction, after 24 May 1980.”.
