REGULATIONS UNDER THE NAVIGATION ACT 1912-1965.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Navigation Act 1912-1965.

Amendments of the Navigation (Examination of Engineers) Regulations 1926

Commencement.

1. These Regulations shall come into operation on the fourteenth day of February, 1966.

Renewal of lost or defaced certificates.

2. Regulation 27 of the Navigation (Examination of Engineers) Regulations 1926 is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (4.) the words “ Five shillings ” and inserting in their stead the words “ Fifty cents ”.

Withdrawal of lower grade certificate on issue of higher grade certificate.

3. Regulation 28 of the Navigation (Examination of Engineers) Regulations 1926 is amended by omitting the word “ Director ” (wherever occurring) and inserting in its stead the word “ Minister ”.

Subjects of examination.

4.Regulation 81 of the Navigation (Examination of Engineers) Regulations 1926 is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (4.) the symbol and figure “ £1 ” and inserting in their stead the words “ Two dollars ”.

Payment of fees for workshop tests.

5.Regulation 82 of the Navigation (Examination of Engineers) Regulations 1926 is amended by omitting from sub-regulation (1.) the symbols and figures “ £2 10s. ”, “ £1 ” and “ £1 10s. ” and inserting in their stead the words “ Five dollars ”, “ Two dollars ” and “ Three dollars ”, respectively.

Second Schedule.

6. The Second Schedule to the Navigation (Examination of Engineers) Regulations 1926 is amended—

(a) by omitting from question 3 of the questions headed Third Class in the Specimen Sets of Papers in Practical Mathematics for Coastal Engineers the symbols and figures “ £14 11s. 10d.” and inserting in their stead the symbol and figures “ $29.18 ”;

(b) by omitting from that question the words “ Answer in £ s.d.” and inserting in their stead the words “ Answer in dollars and cents.”;

(c) by omitting from question 8 of those questions the symbols and figures “ £2 2s. 6d.” and inserting in their stead the symbol and figures “ $4.25 ”;

(d) by omitting from question 7 of the questions headed Second Class in those Specimen Sets of Papers the symbols and figures “ 2s. 6d.” and “ 2s.” and inserting in their stead the symbol and figures “ $0.25 ” and “ $0.20 ”, respectively; and

(e) by omitting from that question the words “ Answer in £ s.d.” and inserting in their stead the words “ Answer in dollars and cents.”.

Third Schedule.

7. The Third Schedule to the Navigation (Examination of Engineers) Regulations 1926 is amended—

(a) by omitting from question 2 of the questions headed Second Class in the Specimen Set of Papers in Arithmetic for Marine Engine-drivers for Steam or Internal Combustion Engines the symbols and figures “ 1s. 7d.” and “ 1s. 6d.” and inserting in their stead the symbol and figures “ $0.16 ” and “ $0.15 ”, respectively;

(b) by omitting from that question the words “ Answer—£ s.d.” and inserting in their stead the words “ Answer in dollars and cents.”;

(c) by omitting from question 9 of those questions the symbols and figures “ 2s. 6d.” and inserting in their stead the symbol and figures “ $0.25 ”;

(d) by omitting from that question the words “ Answer—£ s.d.” and inserting in their stead the words “ Answer in dollars and cents.”;

(e) by omitting from question 10 of those questions the symbols and figures “ 10s.”, “ 7s. 6d.” and “ 12s. 6d.” and inserting in their stead the symbol and figures “ $1.00 ”, “ $0.75 ” and “ $1.25 ”, respectively; and

(f) by omitting from that question the words “ Answer—£ s.d.” and inserting in their stead the words “ Answer in dollars and cents.”.

Fifth Schedule.

8. The Fifth Schedule to the Navigation (Examination of Engineers) Regulations 1926 is amended by omitting the symbols and figures “ £1 10s.” and inserting in their stead the symbol and figures “ $3.00 ”.

Ninth Schedule.

9. The Ninth Schedule to the Navigation (Examination of Engineers) Regulations 1926 is repealed.

Eleventh Schedule .

10. The Eleventh Schedule to the Navigation (Examination of Engineers) Regulations 1926 is amended by omitting paragraph (1.) and inserting in its stead the following paragraph:—

“ (1.) The following fees respectively are payable on each occasion on which an applicant presents himself for examination for, or for the endorsement of, a certificate:—

Certificates of Imperial Validity

Second Class Engineer’s Certificate.................................................................

First Class Engineer’s Certificate if the applicant holds a valid and appropriate Second Class Certificate of Competency......................................................

First Class Engineer’s Certificate if the applicant does not hold a Second Class Certificate, as above described......................................................................

Endorsement of First Class Engineer’s Certificate if the applicant has previously held a Second Class Certificate appropriate to the endorsement desired .....
