Navigation (Construction) Regulations (Amendment) (Cth)
I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL
of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal
Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the

(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (1) the definitions of “existing cargo ship” and “existing passenger ship”;
(b) by inserting after the definition of “floodable length” in sub-regulation (1) the following definitions:
“‘Group A cargo ship’ means a cargo ship the keel of which was laid before 20 March 1968;
‘Group A passenger ship’ means a passenger ship the keel of which was laid before 20 March 1968;

‘Group B cargo ship’ means a cargo ship the keel of which was laid during the prescribed period;
‘Group B passenger ship’ means—
(a) a passenger ship the keel of which was laid during the prescribed period; or
(b) a ship that was converted during the prescribed period for service as a passenger ship;”;
(c) by omitting “of Transport” from the definition of “naval architect” in sub-regulation (1);
(d) by omitting from sub-regulation (1) the definitions of “new cargo ship”, “new passenger ship” and “new ship”;
(e) by inserting after the definition of “permeability” in sub-regulation (1) the following definition:
“‘prescribed period’ means the period commencing on 20 March 1968 and ending at the expiration of 24 May 1980;”;
(f) by omitting “the Navigation (Radio) Regulations” from the definition of “radiotelegraph room” in sub-regulation (1) and substituting “Marine Orders, Part 26 (Equipment—Communication), as in force from time to time”; and
(g) by adding at the end thereof the following sub-regulation:
“(4) A reference in these Regulations to Marine Orders is a reference to orders made under the Navigation (Orders) Regulations as in force from time to time.”.
(a) by omitting from sub-regulation (1.) “new passenger ships” and substituting “Group B passenger ships”;
(b) by omitting from sub-regulation (2) “alterations are” and substituting “, during the prescribed period, alterations were”;
(c) by omitting from sub-regulation (2) “an existing passenger ship” (wherever occurring) and substituting “a Group A passenger ship”;
(d) by omitting from sub-regulation (2) “new passenger ship” and substituting “Group B passenger ship”; and
(e) by omitting sub-regulation (3).
ADDITIONAL AMENDMENTS OF PRINCIPAL REGULATIONS
1. The following provisions of the Principal Regulations are amended by omitting “new cargo ship” (wherever occurring) and substituting “Group B cargo ship”:
Sub-regulations 270 (1). (5), (7), (8), (9) and 271 (1) and regulation 272.
2. The following provisions of the Principal Regulations are amended by omitting “an existing cargo ship” (wherever occurring) and substituting “a Group A cargo ship”;
Sub-regulations 270 (7), (9) and 271 (2).
